Shared Worlds

Some of you don't put the book down when it's over. You draw what you saw. You build a playlist for it. Rook Maison and the rest of my fiction have been pulling that out of readers for a while now, and this is where it lives.

Just below, you'll find my passion project, artwork readers have made from these stories, and a punk playlist Rook himself would love. Broken people, the histories that won't stay buried, the questions the books refuse to answer.

If something here moved you to make something of your own — a sketch, a painting, a song, anything — send it. The pieces I choose go up here with your name on them, and some find their way elsewhere on the site or into showcases.

Blackwood's Red Mage

Writing novels isn't my only passion. Gaming's been in my blood for decades. I've spun stories on both sides of the DM screen longer than I've published, and lately, one project has taken me over completely — I can't do anything but show it to you.

The Red Mage is a spellblade built on tempo. Two opposing magics — black and white, ruin and renewal — held in balance and spent in a single earned moment, with a blade between them to keep the wielder whole. It's not about hitting hardest. It's about timing: you build the pressure round by round, then let it go when the beat is right.

I built it from the ground up for D&D fifth edition, inspired by the Red Mage of Final Fantasy XIV — a complete class that teaches itself through play. It's free, and it's already slipped out of my hands: carried to tables that aren't mine, and adapted into Baldur's Gate 3 by SuperVertigo.

Read the prose. Test the mechanics. Step inside and see what it can do.
